    • To check the validity of a chequebook, you will need to contact the bank that issued the chequebook. They will be able to tell you if the chequebook is active and if the balance is sufficient for the cheques to be accepted. Additionally, you may also need to provide additional information such as the account number, account holder’s name, and the cheque number range.

  2. I received a post-dated cheque from someone from his personal savings account, but now he refuses to clear it. The bank confirmed the account and cheque with me. However, the cheque was deliberately issued to me from an old chequebook of ten years by that individual, and today he says he will file a complaint against me to the police over the fact that he did not issue the cheque is ten years old. What should I do in this situation? Is that cheque expired and no longer valid? Is it advisable to draw the cheque on a bank? Could you please elaborate on the positives and negatives? Thank you.

    • In this situation, it is important to consider the legal implications of the post-dated cheque. The cheque itself may be valid but if the individual has refused to clear it, then it could be seen as a breach of contract. The individual may also have a valid legal complaint against you if they can prove that the cheque was deliberately issued from an old chequebook.

The positives of drawing the cheque on a bank are that you can get a guarantee that the cheque will be paid. The bank may also provide a guarantee that the cheque will be accepted and cleared. The negatives of drawing the cheque on a bank are that the individual may still file a complaint against you if they can prove the cheque was deliberately issued from an old chequebook.

It is also important to consider the time frame of the post-dated cheque. If the cheque is dated more than 6 months ago, it is most likely expired and no longer valid. In this case, it is advisable to contact the individual and discuss a resolution to the issue. If the cheque is still valid, then it is important to determine the best course of action. If the individual is unwilling to clear the cheque, then you may need to take legal action.
